A Letter In Mind Online Sale Begins on Wednesday 25th Oct

A Letter in Mind is a special exhibition that will be open from 24-28 October at Gallery Different (14 Percy St, London W1T 1DR). Some of the amazing artists taking part include; Sir Grayson Perry, Axel Scheffler, Christopher Nolan, Joe Lycett, Leigh Francis (Keith Lemon), Mark Gatiss, Morag and Ishbel Myerscough, Harry Pye, Nicky Bryant, Robert Raynard, Louis Caulfield, Annabel Dover, Russell Herron, Phylida Law, Andrew Marr, Kevin Eldon, Simon Munnery, Gill Rocca, Sarah Wood, Eva Tait, Chantal Joffe, Indira Varma and Dame Zandra Rhodes.⁠ All artworks will be priced at £85 and sold via their online gallery. The works will remain anonymous until they are sold; the names of the artists will be revealed at the end of the exhibition.⁠ All proceeds from sales will help to transform life for the millions of people affected by neurological and neuromuscular conditions in the UK.⁠ The online gallery will be found at www.aletterinmind.org so grab a piece of envelope art and make a difference. Online sales begin at 11am on 25 October⁠. Since their launch in 1984, The National Brain Appeal has raised more than £56m.

Jim Sclavunos and Soho Radio

 


Jim Sclavunous has been a member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds since 1994 and has also worked with Grinderman, Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth, Wendy James, Lydia Lunch, Marianne Faithful, Jim James Review, The Cramps and many others. Jim also hosts a splendid show on Soho Radio where he spins the platters that matter. Last week's show featured an in depth interview with John J. Presley. Mr Sclavunous also played fab tracks by; Yova, Lovers of the Fancy, and The Spammed. Listen to the show: HERE

Above: Jim meets James Lawson (the drummer of Lovers of The Fancy who was also one of 16 artists in the 'Always On My Mind' show which was held in aid of The National Brain Appeal. Lovers of The Fancy describe themselves as being a "Sensational Bluesabilly Trio that bring you Syncopated Swamp Beat and Victorian Stomp." I think their new song 'Signals' is fantastic

Above: Two 2 Tone Legends - Chris from Madness and Horace from The Specials both feature on the special Spammed version of 'Aint That A Kick In The Head?' which was recorded for The Specialized organisation. Since 2011 Paul Willo and Paul Ayriss and the rest of The Specialized team have raised around 1000K for good causes such as Youth music and Tonic music for mental health and the Teenage Cancer Trust by releasing themed compilation albums. In Feb 2022 The Spammed collaborated with Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey and Madness guitarist Chris Foreman on a track for a Specialized comp called 'Our Way' The Spammed (who are Kevin Eldon, Rat Scabies, Horace Panter, Micko Westmoreland, and Terry Edwards) recorded a stunning version of Dean Martin's 'Ain't That A Kick In The Head' For more info on The Spammed's recording session go: HERE

Platforms Project in Athens



Platforms Project in Athens is an annual gathering of spaces from around the world, all grass roots and artist led, that was founded by artist and curator Artemis Potamianou in 2013. The curator Iavor Lubomirov who runs Cabel Depot in Woolwich, will be in charge of a booth titled, 'Spin To Win.' You can meet Iavor in Athens at his 'Spin To Win' booth from the 26th to 29th of October. Address: «Î¤ÎµÏ‡Î½ÏŒÏ€Î¿Î»Î¹Ï‚» Δήμου Αθηναίων | “Technopolis” City of Athens, Pireos 100, Athina 118 54, Greece. Last night Iavor hung around in S.E.18 whilst artists passed by offering fun size masterpieces for him to take to Greece and sell in his booth.

Jeremy Deller makes Pet Shop Boys art print to help charity

 Jeremy Deller who won the Turner Prize in 2004 and represented Britain in the Venice Biennale in 2013 has made an artwork that will be sold in aid of The National Brain Appeal who help people suffering with dementia, Strokes, MS, and Parkinson's. All of the ink jet prints are signed by the artist on the back. They are made on a lovely silver metalic paper and are 42cm by 60cm so would fit in a standard A2 sized frame.


The print was very recently launched at the opening party for an exhibition curated by Harry Pye at London's Fitzrovia Gallery. The Always On My Mind show closes today (Sunday 3rd of Sept) at 6pm.

If you can't get to Fitzrovia Gallery (139 Whitfield St, London W1T 5EN today between 12 and 6pm and buy one in person (if you live in the U.K you can buy a print from the charitie's web shop for £125 including postage). Visit the site:
